EBAC Northern League club Whitley Bay have announced that former manager Ian Chandler will return to the club until the end of the season.

Chandler, who won the FA Vase as a player with the Bay and then led them to three Vase wins as a manager, will take charge of the Seahorses after the departure of manager Paddy Atkinson.

The news was announced on the club website on Sunday afternoon.

The statement in full read "Whitley Bay Football Club have parted company with Manager Paddy Atkinson. Atkinson has been in charge at Hillheads for just over a year, during which time the Club enjoyed a successful FA Cup campaign but since then league form has been disappointing with only two wins in the last eight games.

Chairman Paul McIlduff said the Club would like to thank Paddy for his all his efforts over the past year and wished him the best of luck in the future.

The Club are pleased to announce that former boss Ian Chandler has agreed to return as manager until the end of the season, assisted by another familiar figure, former physio Glen Martin.

News of any further appointments will follow in due course"

The club currently sit in seventeenth place in the Northern League Division One table, just one point above the relegation zone, although they do have games in hand on many of the teams around them.

Chandler's first game in charge will be Tuesday night's Northumberland Senior Cup Quarter Final against Morpeth Town, with his first league game coming against local rivals North Shields on Saturday.
