Got to say that the game hinged around the substitutions which were quite frankly suicidal. If Pennock was knackered then why the hell not repace him with Shearer????? Five at the back looked fine in the first half. Also, O'Rielly looked comfortable until the defence went to rat-sh*t and he had to resort to punching everything. I've often praised Andy in the past for having the guts to make positive substitutions when we've been behind. But for heavens sake Andy, you don't need to chase a game we're already winning!!!! Got to agree with the comments about the crowd as well. Very subdued. Stood on the half-way line first half and behind the goal seconed. Not much atmosphere anywhere. Still... early days

As an observer of your forum and a Margit fan, is there too much emphasis on the fact that we have to beat part-time teams and that the full-time teams are pretty much going to dominate games? <img src="/images/graemlins/achso.gif" alt="" />

We earned(and deserved) a point at Shrewsbury on Saturday, teams like ,chester ,morecambe and hereford will give us a harder time than shrews did on saturday.

Che Stadhart did really well when he came on (70mins) and with two other late subs, changed the whole perspective of the game.

Hope Shearer does well at the Kent Mediterranean of Gravesend, he's atop player and a graet bloke.

Good luck

Just thought I'd throw my two bob in - I agree totally with those saying there should be places in the team for Rob Owen and Matt Lee, I think the understanding between Macca and Rob is the best in the middle of park we have, with Perkins and Drury making up the other two slots in a 4 man midfield we should have something to be pleased about - if Perkins can get his fitness back we may have a real successor to Bentley. I also think we have some great defenders this year, Trott & Pennock were class, although I thought the Fridge got turned too many times, not least in the build up to Burton's equaliser, I hope this is just a phase as we all know what he can do on his day.
The biggest disappointment for me on Saturday was the way we played, we looked like a team fighting relegation in our first game! Hoofing up the pitch at every given oppurtunity is not only unattractive it achieves very little when the two front men are 5 footers up against 6 foot plus centre halfs, I'm sure we'll see much better from Abbey and Huggins once the they receive some sort of service on the ground via midfield, and let's not forget they haven't played with each other much so there is bound to be a lack of understanding.

Despite all the negatives that can be taken from Saturday I still feel a bit better having seen what could happen once we start playing the right way, and once the team begins to gel - when we look at the players we lost from last year, and then look at what they actually did and who their replacements are I think we're alright, we look a bit stronger at the back, Jacko, a fleet legend granted, didn't look up for it for much of last year, and Drury has looked good in pre-season, and Perkins for me could possibly be our new Benno. Losing Che and Liam has been a bit of a blow but we didn't have Liam for much of last season anyway through injury, and Che's scoring record was not the best (correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Che score the majority of his goals against Woking, and from the spot?)

There is a long way to go and anything can happen - I'm looking forward to it, I think many fans will be pleasantly surprised, as long as we start playing football.
