FF News
Conference South club Staines Town have bade farewell to one of the most appeared players in their current squad, Jerel Ifil. Ifil has played one hundred and twelve times for the club since former manager Marcus Gayle signed him from Boreham Wood in November 2012. The 32-year-old centre-back brought with him a wealth of experience gained during his eleven seasons as a professional. He played over two hundred games for Football League clubs, the vast majority for his home-town team Swindon Town. As well as periods with Watford, Huddersfield Town, and Torquay United, he also played forty-nine times for Aberdeen. Ifil made considerable sacrifices to play for Staines Town, including driving from Swindon, yet he remained totally professional in his outlook, and a model example for many of the club's younger players to learn from. He successfully juggled this commitment with being a family man and running two businesses, and deserves much credit for performing all these duties to the highest standard. Furthermore, buoyed by his faith, he remained measured, approachable, and quietly determined throughout his two years with the club. There has been some confusing information online in the last few days, but we would like to reiterate that Ifil's decision to move on was an amicable one reached with Martyn Spong, and all at Staines Town have no hesitation in wishing him every success in his future both within and outside football.
