Ashton Town will welcome Wigan Athletic stars of the past, present and future to a fundraising fixture on Friday May 8th.

Roberto Martinez and many other top Wigan Athletic legends will be playing at Ashton Town to raise money for local charity Joseph's Goal.

Joseph’s Goal was set up by local football correspondent Paul Kendrick, to raise funds for research into NKH, the incurable genetic disorder his son Joseph was diagnosed with at birth.

Speaking about the charity match, Paul said: “We’re delighted to be able to announce our first ‘Joseph’s Goal charity match’ after much planning.

“Wigan Athletic as ever have been right behind us, and we also thank Ashton Town – and in particular their chairman Mark Hayes – for all their support in putting on the game.

"It promises to be a real feast of football, featuring some of the legends of the past and, who knows, some of the stars of the club’s future. It’s a night not to be missed”.

Town Chairman Mark Hayes said: "I can't tell you enough how good this squad is that has been put together for Joseph's Goal.

"Roberto Martinez, Graeme Jones, Nathan Ellington, Gary Caldwell, Chris Kirkland, Graham Lancashire, and Matt Jackson will be there, with loads more yet to be announced.

"I am extremely proud to be linking up with Joseph’s Goal. May 8th will just be the start of it as we plan to host an annual Joseph’s Goal game every September.

“I’m a lifelong Latics fan myself and to be involved in something like this with so many legends is surreal. I can confidently say that when Roberto takes to the Ashton Town pitch it will be one of my proudest moments as chairman.

“The club and I plan to stay close to Joseph’s Goal, so here’s to a very successful partnership.”

The legends side will take on the current Wigan Athletic Development squad with the likes of Jordan Flores, Louis Robles and Sam Cosgrove who have all seen Wigan Athletic first team action this season.

Tickets are available now direct from the Wigan Athletic ticket office in person, or via 08716633552, or via Mark himself at markhayes@ashtontownafc.co.uk.
