Nuneaton Town have appointed Kevin Wilson as their new first team manager

Wilson, who recently took Ilkeston to the Northern Premier Division play-off final, joins the club on a two year contract. Wilson said: "I'm excited and looking forward to taking on a new and different challenge.

"Nuneaton had a difficult season and relegation is hard to take, but they have done well to stay in the top flight of non-league football for three seasons. Everyone knows how tough the Conference Premier is, but it's where non-league clubs want to be. My job is to lay the foundations and build a team capable of getting the club back up there, which will take patience and time.

"I want to establish a squad of players who are hungry to do well. A blend of youth and experience with the right attitude to achieve success. I know from experience that it can be done and that's the philosophy that I'll be introducing at Nuneaton Town.

"I'm relishing this opportunity. The first thing I'm going to do is speak to the current squad and assess the way things are at the club. I'm not afraid to make tough decisions, though, and change the way things are done because I'm confident that in the long term it will bring positive results.

"I encourage a passing game where players know their individual and collective responsibilities. I'm fair and honest and want the club to do well. We'll all be working very hard to achieve success. It may not happen overnight, but that's the aim.

"I expect my players to show commitment, passion and desire and play exciting football. The fans pay good money to watch Nuneaton Town so it's only fair that we do our best to give them something they will enjoy."

During his football career Wilson played as a striker for a number of top flight clubs including Derby County, Ipswich and Chelsea. He also represented Northern Ireland at international level 42 times. As a manager he has been at Northampton, Bedford, Kettering, Hucknall and Corby.

Boro chairman Lee Thorn said: "I have always followed Kevin's career in management and was pleased to see his hard work coming to fruition at Ilkeston.

"Kevin has fielded a competitive first team this season with an average age of just 19. Additionally a couple of players have progressed to the point where they have been sold to clubs at a higher level, which has brought in much needed revenue.

"Kevin has been given a two year contract which reflects the club's ambition where we are aiming for a mix of youth and experience competing for a place in the first team."

Wilson will announce his backroom team shortly.
