Salisbury boosted by lease extension

Salisbury FC have announced that the trustees of the Raymond McEnhill Stadium have agreed to extend the club's lease to take in the 2016/17 season.

It means that Whites can now go ahead and apply for promotion from Step 5 football to Step 4.

"It's great news," said Whites chairman Dave Phillips, who made the announcement on the pitch before the AFC St Austell FA Vase tie at the RayMac in front of 854 supporters.

"We are grateful to the trustees for the extension. I am sure they have seen that we are a well-run club now and been reassured that we are meeting our monthly rental payments.

"The ultimate aim is still to move the club to a new stadium to release the current venue to the trustees as they are seeking in the long term but for now, we can enjoy a bit of stability.

"We will continue our current work with the trustees and all the other agencies involved, from both football and local and county councils, to try and find a new location and the right resolution for all concerned."

The club will now finalise its documentation to the FA this week to meet the November 30th application deadline for promotion.

"Of course, we need to win the Wessex League to be considered for the move up to Step 4, which would probably be the Southern League South and West Division," added Dave.

"But at least we are now in a position to fulfill all the criteria, which include proving financial data and getting the appropriate ground grading, to show that we can move up if we do win the league."
