This was not the original plan. Henfield Bee had picked out Hinton's Cup tie in the Herts Senior League, kick off at 1.30, with the ground a short walk from Gordon Hill station. Good Public Transport did its best not to get us there, but we arrived on kick off time to find no one around, nothing on Full Time until today showing this as postponed. We looked at Futbology and chose Cockfosters where we last visited on 21/9/96 when they beat Croydon Athletic 7-0 in London Senior Cup. Walk to Enfield Chase, Bus to Oakwood tube and 1 stop to Cockfosters and a walk across the road to Chalk Lane. Can't remember the ground from 96 but it has 2 rows of seats near the entrance and a bit of cover behind the near goal.
Aylesbury scored after 11 minutes and doubled their lead just before half time when a shot took a wicked deflection past the keeper. In between the home side were reduced to 10 men when the home number 4 said something that the referee took exception to and was shown a straight red card which those close to the player/referee found rather surprising.
Second half saw Cockfosters take the game to their opponents and they were rewarded with 2 goals both of which took deflections and were a bit unlucky not to get all 3 points. As for the attendance Henfield Bee did a headcount just after the first goal was scored and it came to 15, some more people did arrive before half time but doubt many of them paid. Journey home was straight forward and Burgess Hill was reached at 7pm.
