Anybody else sick of Dagenham?

Recommended Posts

Andy mentioned in the Reporter last week that its difficult attracting "big name" players such as Patmore etc. to the Club as we have been labelled as "relegation fodder" by the bookies so the better players are reluctant to join us.

It seems that if Dagenham go for the same player as us then we might as well not bother, as they will currently outbid us financially in terms of wages. With them being in our "geographical hemisphere" this is always going to be a problem.

However, why would Patmore opt for Margate over us? I'm sure the package offered by the Club to Patmore was very competitive so it begs the question why this "big name striker" is proving so elusive?

The strikeforce of Hatch, Budge and Evans is looking very lightweight at present for the Conference when you consider Daganham can choose from Mark Stein, Keith Scott, Leo Braithwaite, Alex Meecham, Danny Shipp and Neil Fenn (has he signed for them?).

There are only so many quality "big strapping Centre Forwards" and lumping the ball up field to these blokes isn't exactly attractive to watch. On the other hand, G&N always seem to play better when the ball is kept on the ground so would someone like Alan Tait not make for more interesting football as the ball would have to be played to feet more to accomadate him?

Presumably because Margate have finished in a fairly comfortable mid-table Conference position for the last two seasons and we haven't.

The old vicious circle, isn't it. To be successful you need good players, who in return want good money that we can only pay if we're successful etc. etc. Trust or no Trust, there's only so much money in the supporters' pockets. But, hey, the season hasn't started yet. Have faith, I reckon we'll do OK.
