Three Ebac Northern League clubs – Bedlington Terriers, Marske United and Newton Aycliffe – stage charity matches on Saturday afternoon for causes close to their hearts.

The Terriers’ game, 2pm kick-off, is a testimonial for long-serving former manager Keith Perry and reunites the 1999 FA Vase final squad against the present sides. All proceeds will go to the Northern Counties Kidney Research Fund. Top local band State 4 plays in the clubhouse afterwards.

Marske’s match (3 30pm) is in memory of former committee member and man-of-many-hats Jimmy Smith, who died from leukaemia last May. It features teams of supporters known officially as the Chicken Run Collective and Tin Shed Titans.

Though entry is free, there’s a collection for the Haematology Endowment Fund at the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, where Jim was treated. The club’s presentation evening and a race night takes place in the nearby Zetland Hotel afterwards.
Newton Aycliffe’s match (12 30pm) is a fund raiser for leukaemia and lymphoma research, specifically for the fund set up by former committee member Paul McGeary who has been successfully treated for leukaemia at James Cook.

It features sides of former players captained by ex-captains John Close and Sean Tarling. Admission is by donation, but donations can also be made to www.justgiving.com/paulmcgeary
