Millers appoint Keith Briggs as manager

New Mills AFC announced the appointment of Keith Briggs as The Millers new manager.

Glossop born Keith enjoyed a successful playing career for fifteen years. He originally joined Stockport County as a trainee in August 1999 where after seventy games, he transferred to Norwich for £65,000 in January 2003. Keith was unable to establish a regular place in the first team at Carrow Road and spent a loan spell at Crewe Alexandra before returning to Stockport County in January 2005 where he took his total number of appearances to over one hundred and sixty. Following his departure from Edgeley Park in early 2008, Keith played for Shrewsbury Town, Mansfield Town and Stalybridge Celtic amongst others.

Keith took on the management role at Stalybridge in 2013 for two seasons before resigning in March this year. On his departure, Stalybridge Chairman Rob Gorski thanked Keith stating “Keith brought investment to the Club, got us a tremendous place to train and brought a breath of fresh air to the Club.”

New Mills AFC’s Committee have spoken in depth with Keith about the Club’s realistic ambitions for the coming season and the Club’s hopes to re-engage with the fans. Keith has a great work ethic and is looking forward to combining players with experience, developing local youth talent and working with the Club’s Development Squad to help their progression into the first team. As well as excellent communication skills and good team building qualities, Keith has an impressive CV including The UEFA B Certificate in Coaching Football.

Keith’s management team is completed by Andy Fearn and Mark Atkins -

- Andy has years of experience in scouting and Keith speaks of his talent spotting with great respect and enthusiasm. Andy was Keith's right-hand man at Stalybridge Celtic and also helped to promote sponsorship for the Club.

- Former Matlock Town manager Mark Atkins complements the back-room team with his knowledge and coaching. Mark enjoyed an illustrious football career wining the Premier League title in 1995 with Blackburn Rovers before moving on to Scunthorpe United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, York City, Doncaster Rovers, Hull City, Shrewsbury Town and Harrogate Town.

Keith is on holiday until early next week but will be immediately focusing on preparing his squad to play in the first home pre-season friendly on Wednesday 15th July against Division One club Rochdale. Upon Keith’s return, the Committee will be setting a mid-July date for a " Meet The Manager Evening " which will give Keith the opportunity to introduce himself and speak about his plans for progressing the Club both on and off the pitch

To supplement Keith’s appointment, New Mills AFC are looking for an enthusiastic person to develop the media aspects of the Club which will include maintaining the website, updating Twitter, match day announcements and writing articles for the programme and media.
