FF News
Stalybridge Celtic are in talks about leaving their home of more than a century to move to a new stadium in the town centre. They have entered discussions with Tameside Council with three different sites in the town centre said to be being considered. The council own the land on which the current 6,500 capacity ground sits, though Celtic have an extended lease on it. Any agreement would see the council provide a purpose-built new stadium, allowing them to sell the land off for development, most likely for housing. Sources at the club say the stadium would have to be provided in advance... The new stadium could also be accompanied by a retail outlet and a function room or banqueting suite, as well as an all-weather 4G pitch, as the main pitch or alongside. The plans were revealed at a packed meeting, attended by more than 100 fans. It came about after the club held discussions with the council over building a new clubhouse. And if the new stadium project does not materialise, club bosses say the council have assured them they will support them in renovating the current ground, including the building of a new two-storey clubhouse. A joint statement released after the meeting said 'We just hope, in terms of feasibility, it works. If there is a will on both sides, which I believe there is, then hopefully we can make some big announcements in late summer, early autumn'".
