Wrexham loss ensures Boden's long-awaited goal is bittersweet

Scott Boden says it was a 'bittersweet' moment after finally breaking his Wrexham goalscoring duck in the Dragons heaviest defeat of the season.

Wrexham crashed to a humiliating 4-1 loss at Moss Rose as Macclesfield Town overhauled the Dragons and moved to the top of the National League standings.

Scott Wilson had fired the Silkmen ahead in a one-sided first half that prompted Dragons boss Dean Keates to admit his side had been lucky to go in a solitary goal down at the interval.

However, Wrexham rallied after the break and dominated for a large spell of the game, Boden eventually making the break through with little more than 15 minutes remaining as he headed Mark Carrington's cross past ex-Dragons keeper Shwan Jalal.

But it was short lived joy as Wilson went on to complete his hat-trick, while David Fitzpatrick added a fourth in injury time to ensure the home side claimed the win.

"It doesn't kind of gloss over it (scoring), but it is nice to get on the scoresheet," said Boden. "At the end of the day it is not the performance or the result we wanted so it is kind of bittersweet.

"Of course it is (nice to score), but at the end of the day I'd rather have not scored and we win. So it is what it is, we go again and hopefully bounce back."
