Leverstock Green 3 Hertford Town 2

Recommended Posts

A lively encounter! Home side denied a clear penalty in the opening minutes, when lino didn't back up the ref, who looked like he was going to give the pen, then looked to the lino for confirmation, and got nothing. Then the lino tried to take over the game, being "busy" every time the ball went over his side of the pitch. Hertford took the lead on 28 minutes through a "Henryesque" finish by Lee Roberts. Was looking good for The Blues (playing in red!) until 68 minutes, when the ref decided to make up for the earlier non-pen by awarding one when James Armstrong kicked Glenn Draper's leg and fell over. Armstrong scored from the lucky spot kick to equalise.

Lots of bookings as the ref had not had control of the game at any stage. Hertford conceded a silly free kick on the edge of the box on 80 minutes and Frankie Jowle scored with a brilliant effort straight into the net. Hertford were not finished and equalised on 87 minutes through a Kevin Cooper tap in. In a game in which no trainer set foot on the field throughout the second half, the ref managed to find 10 minutes of time added (all of his own making) and with 6 of these gone, Armstrong got the winner when Hertford lost possession from their own throw in. It was tough luck on Hertford, who performed better than of late. There was much throwing of handbags at the end, and Leverstock's Jon Davis appeared to be red carded after the final whistle .

Thanks Rhodes, I would never have found that without you!

On a serious note, the two match reports were clearly written by two honest souls who actually did watch the same game!

Yes, I was told it was No.14, but it was in fact No. 12 Jamie Parsons, allegedly for kicking Dave Greenwood up the backside!
