Its a pity "young" lads trying to do something for local football get called geeks etc. and a bigger pity one of them stopped reffing.

Very true... a few of us are involved on the club committee and we run the tannoy during the game. But that's all strictly professional, we need no amplification to be heard!

It's a combination of things that stopped me refereeing, mostly the abuse, but also:
having to fill in so many forms after each match, having to get up so early, having lots of college/university work, not having transport (although this situation has changed). But like I say, it's mostly due to the ridiculous lack of respect for officials.

(The final straw was an U-18 match where two rival gangs turned up, invaded the pitch, started on the players/managers and resulted in a mass brawl with the case going to court. I was involved as a witness, but got no support from the County FA who sent me a letter telling me to control the matches better in future so that they don't get bad press)
