FF News
There were three non-league teams in FA Cup Third Round action on Saturday afternoon, but unfortunately none made progress into the Fourth Round. Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division club Blyth Spartans were once again stunning Football League opposition, as Birmingham City visited Croft Park. Spartans were 2-0 up at half-time thanks to a superb brace from captain Robbie Dale, but in six second-half minutes City hit back through former Gateshead striker Lee Novak and a brace from Wes Thomas to win 3-2. Southport came very close to earning a replay out of Championship promotion contenders Derby County, but a penalty from Chris Martin in the third minute of second-half injury time was enough to see County sneak through. Gateshead weren't so fortunate, as Premier League side West Brom ran out 7-0 winners in their first game under manager Tony Pulis. Much sought-after striker Saido Berahino scored four, with Victor Anichebe, Chris Brunt and James Morrison also scoring. The game was tied after forty minutes before two late first-half strikes had Albion in control. All supporters following their club were a credit yesterday, let's hope of more success in today's games involving non-league clubs as Dover Athletic take on Crystal Palace and Wrexham face a trip to Stoke City.
