FF News
Bishop's Cleeve secured only their second win of the season at Swindon Supermarine and lifted themselves off the bottom of the Southern League Division One South & West table at the same time. Mitres boss Steve Cleal was able to give long-awaited debuts to Matt Gould and Aaron Drake, while he also handed an instant start to Jack Oldham on his return to the club for his second spell. A bright start to the game saw Cleeve burst into the lead on two minutes. A smart save by Gould led to a counter- attack and Matt Magee ran away to give Cleeve the lead. However, Cleeve were soon down to ten men when Alton Axton picked up a second yellow card. On 52 minutes, the home side equalised when a turn of pace on the left wing saw Josh Morse burst into the area. Callum Preece pulled him back and Chris Taylor netted the resulting penalty. But the game took another twist when Marine substitute Sam Morris was sent off. Jack Watts put Cleeve back in front with a deflected effort, but Bradley Gray then had a tap-in to level things again. However, Watts then seized on a poor clearance and his shot could only be tipped in by the goalkeeper to give Cleeve the lead. Cleal said he was delighted by his team's character and mental strength.
