Roberts Insists Results Will Pick Up

Gary Roberts believes it is only a matter of time before Cambridge City's results improve, with tonight's match against Redditch an ideal starting point.

The City boss said performances on the pitch have warranted more than the single point that the Lilywhites have come away with in their last five league fixtures. A small improvement in penalty areas would likely make a significant difference.

Saturday's 3-1 loss at high-flying Corby Town was a good example, with City squandering a number of chances throughout the match.

"All that's missing from our game is the finishing," he said.

"We had numerous chances to go two or three goals up on Saturday. That's all that's stopping us at the moment."

The Lilywhites won 4-2 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season but Roberts expects tonight's visitor, who are currently fifth in the table, to be a handful.

"We were very lucky to be only 2-0 down at half time there," he said.

"The second half saw a bit of a turnaround but I've watched them since then and they're a qualtiy team with a good attitude about them.

"They can sit back but they tend to go at you so they will be a threat.

"But our midfield is looking strong and we've got more to offer going forward than we did a couple of weeks ago."

City are without a league win since November 18 but Roberts expects the team to start climbing the league table in the near future.

"If our performances were poor on a regular basis I would be worried," he continued.

"But they're good, and we're playing some really good football and creating lots of chances."

There will be more good news for City in the coming weeks as well, with Tom Pepper and Zac Barrett both close to returning to first-team action.

"Tom will hopefully be back soon," said Roberts.

"He's maybe going to have to push himself through the pain barrier a bit.

"Zac is doing quite a lot of work in goalkeeping sessions. It's a case of him returning sooner rather than later."
