Congleton set for fundraiser

NWCFL side Congleton Town will be welcoming volunteers from locally based charity, CarersTrust4All, to their home game against Nelson on Saturday.

The charity is celebrating their 25th anniversary, and provides practical and emotional support, including care at home, to help reduce the stress of caring regularly faced by unpaid carers. The club has organised a collection on the day and also a special challenge match at 5.30 pm.

Congleton Town’s Laurence Unwin explained: “The charity got in touch with the club asking for some fundraising assistance, and help in raising their profile via the football club, as they are based around 300 metres from our ground.

“They also have a number of football mad young carers and they wanted to see if they could build a relationship with the football club. With home games fast running out this season we were only left with the final home game this week.

“Some staff and volunteers from the charity are coming to the game, providing information about the charity's work and doing a bucket collection for donations.

“The main fundraising event is a re-introduction of something done in years past, whereby a team of Congleton Town FC "officials" play a team of CTFC Supporters. Each participant is donating £5 to play in the game.

“To fit with the 25th anniversary theme - and fitness levels of many participants - the game is scheduled to last for 25 minutes and takes place around 5.30 after Saturday's home game. Hopefully the first team players will stick around to watch and heckle in a role reversal”.
