Colin Richardson, one of North-East non-league football’s top managers died suddenly on Saturday night, following a heart attack.

Known as Rico, he led both Whickham – then in the Wearside League – and Bridlington to FA Vase glory. He also went on to manage the likes of North Shields and Gateshead.

As a player he was best remembered at Spennymoor United and in recent years had worked as a scout.
