Litherland REMYCA completed their first season in the NWCFL with an impressive 2-1 win over Chadderton last Saturday.

It has been a good opening season for REMYCA, after making the step up from the Liverpool County Premier League, when they just managed to finish in a required top five promotion position at the end of last season following the completion of fixtures involving other clubs.

Chairman Don Rimmer says that everyone at the club is happy with the way in which the club has adjusted to playing at a higher level.

"It has been a continued period of transition for our club, enlightening, enjoyable and extremely hard work", he said. "We have made new friends who all share a passion for grass roots football, visited new places and enjoyed the unique hospitality and atmosphere non-league football provides.

"It has been a learning curve both on and off the field, and we would hope to take our experience forward to next season and progress the club further.

"We are looking towards mid and long term objectives. We want our own ground, a community based footballing facility and whilst we have identified a couple of sites that we have spoken to Sefton Council about, we will be out looking at other prospective sites for a facility in the area.

"We have a lot of boxes to tick but when we get the nod on some land, I don’t think it will be too long before we see progress.

"Looking forward, we expect exciting times ahead. We are growing as a club and we will look to restructure our Youth section over the Summer as part of a football strategy to bring young talented players through to first team standard.

"We will push for promotion next season to the NWCFL Premier Division, continue our quest to find our own ground and club base, and continue to develop as a Community club.

"They say football can be all consuming but we are on a roll, and we will continue to strive to be the best on and off the pitch".

Meanwhile, manager Phil Stafford believes that his squad have demonstrated they have the quality to mount a promotion challenge next season.

Phil joined REMYCA as manager in October after a highly successful time at Maghull, and reflecting on a campaign that should see Litherland finish in the top ten in the table, he believes that a good platform has been built for progress next season.

“When we came in here in mid-October we were second bottom of the league, and at the time of writing we could still very well finish in the top ten having had a real effort at the play-offs”, he said.

“It just wasn’t meant to be for us this season, but one thing for sure, it gives us the hunger to lick our wounds, strengthen and get ready to go again.

“It is easy to reflect on the negatives there are many positives to look at. We have beaten sides that are going to be right up there come the end of the season

“At times we have played some great football, we have been able to spread the play, create chances and score goals. In our planning for next season we will be looking for more of the same, although we will be looking to mix it up a little bit and play more direct when we have to.

“For the summer we will be looking at coming back in the second week of June for an early start and we probably won’t work with a ball for the first three weeks of that. I’m conscious of the fact we need to keep our stamina up.

"I will also be looking at bringing a few new bodies in to give us height and steel, just so we can bring that option into the side.

“It’s been a pleasure from the word go at REMYCA and we are looking forward to getting going again with a clean slate and having a real go for it next season”.
