Youth team players Jack Bradley, Elliot Harrison and Josh Taylor have been awarded contracts with Vanarama National League club FC Halifax Town.

In addition to Sam Hillhouse, the players have been involved with the youth team for the previous two seasons.

Director of youth development Steve Nichol said: “Important decisions are often are often taken on players between the ages of 16-18 years of age yet players are far from reaching their potential and patience is often required. We have been working to extend our youth team programme to retain those players showing potential. Such ‘development’ style contracts will create more time and coaching input to allow players to further mature physically and mentally.

“This is one initiative we have been working on alongside joining the West Riding County Under-21 league. Ideally we will keep players with us until their early twenties where they will train with the first team and youth team giving a full time training programme. Utilising the youth team competitive programme or loans, similar to that which has benefitted Jake Hibbs we hope to bridge the gap towards senior football.

“Running alongside the football we are working with Calderdale College to offer the players further academic qualifications as an extension to those which they have achieved over the previous two years or an apprenticeship.

“It’s going to be an exciting year to see how far the lads can progress, they have been selected as much for their attitude as potential they must also retain a relentless work ethic to continue pushing their game forward. Credit also rests with our lead coach, Mark Truman whose guidance and tutelage has really helped to accelerate the development of lads over the last year.”
