Tanner succeeds Buckwell at Chipstead

Former Tooting & Mitcham United manager Craig Tanner was named as the successor to Lyndon Buckwell at Ryman South Chipstead on Monday night.

Tanner took the helm 48 hours after Buckwell left the High Road on Saturday in the wake of his second from bottom side's 4-1 defeat to high-flying South Park.

As a player, Tanner turned out for Tooting & Mitcham, Sutton United, Carshalton Athletic and Metropolitan Police before injury cut short his career. He parted company with the Terrors back in April.

Former Epsom & Ewell boss Buckwell was appointed in mid-October with the club winless in all competitions since the campaign kicked off. Before Saturday's reverse, he guided Chipstead to a 3-1 over Whitstable Town in an early season six pointer last Tuesday night to climb off the bottom of the table.

That result and other obvious signs of improvement in recent weeks followed a win over Chessington & Hook United in the first round of the Surrey Senior Cup at the start of November and Buckwell was thanked for his services by the club's officials after stepping down.

A spokesman said: "We would like to thank Lyndon for all his hard work and efforts whilst at the club. We wish him well for the future."
