Gulls boss blasts defending in Imps defeat

Torquay United manager Kevin Nicholson has criticised his side's defensive abilities after their 3-1 loss to Lincoln City in the National League.

The Gulls have conceded seven goals in two games after they were thrashed 4-0 by Barrow last week and are now third from bottom.

He said: "The three goals this week and a couple of the goals last week are just defending and individual errors.

"That's where people have got to stand up and be counted."

The Gulls have won just one game in the last 19 in all competitions and only bottom-of-the-table Halifax have conceded more goals in the National League.

"We can work on it, but I'll expect the players to go away and have a long think about it, it's concentration, it's not ability," Nicholson added to BBC Radio Devon.

"You don't have to be too intelligent to see that we gave away three awful goals.

"It was schoolboy stuff really and they're the kind of things that are going to cost you games, because a lot of the stuff in the middle was actually pretty good.

"There was a lot of nice passing, particularly in the second half.

"But they haven't had to earn their goals, they've been given them and we can't win games if we do that."
