Salisbury defender ready for comeback

Salisbury defender Callum Hart is set to make a return to action tonight in the Wessex League Cup tie against Fleet Spurs at the Ray Mac.

The experienced defender suffered a dislocated shoulder against Folland Sports in an FA Vase tie almost two months ago but following rest and rehab, is ready for competitive football again.

Callum's return is a boost to the squad with manager Steve Claridge having a few injury worries this week.

Keeper Gareth Barfoot is likely to be out for another week with a groin injury, while Dan Demkiv's hamstring problem and Calum Brockway's ankle injury, both sustained in the 6-1 win at Follands on Saturday, will be assessed this week.

It does not stop Steve naming a strong squad for the Fleet Spurs tie, with new signing Harry Wedlake also hoping to play some part after injury.

"It's a competition we want to do well in," said Steve. "Micky Jenkins was at AFC Portchester last season when they won it and said it was a great way to end the season so we want to give it a good go.

"There is also a chance the final could be played at the Ray Mac as the League have asked us to tender for it and it would be a real incentive to make it a great occasion."

The winners of the tie will play Amesbury Town away on Wednesday December 16th in the last 16.

One player missing will be Jack Maloney. The winger has agreed his release with Steve as he seeks more game time elsewhere.

"Jack is a talented player but with the others we have in his position, I couldn't guarantee him more playing time.

"I understand why he wants to move on. We thank him for his service and wish him well."

Squad v Fleet Spurs: Ball, Martin, Walker, Vallis, Hart, Herbert, Hale, Whelan, T. Roberts, Matthews, Jarvis, Blake, Thorne, Wedlake, S. Roberts, Wilson.
