Simon Lane has stood down as manager and director of football at Ryman Premier Wingate & Finchley.

The former first team coach at National League South side Maidenhead United resigned on Sunday following talks with club officials at the Harry Abrahams Stadium including chairman Aron Sharpe.

Lane also scouted for AFC Wimbledon and managed Windsor & Eton after working in Maltese Premier League as a manager. Appointed in April 2015 as the successor to David Norman, Lane leaves the club in eighth spot in the Ryman's top flight and three points off the play-off places.

Blues officials confirmed on Monday that an announcement on appointing his successor would be made in due course. In the meantime, first team coach Daniel Nielsen will take charge of first team affairs for the club's trip to Enfield Town on Tuesday night in the quarter-finals of the Alan Turvey Trophy sponsored by Robert Dyas.

A Blues spokesman said: "On Sunday Simon Lane attended a meeting with the chairman and vice-chairman to discuss the season so far, and the outcome of the meeting was a mutual agreement for Simon to step down from his role at the club.

"Both parties agree that results are absolutely not a factor in this decision. However, a better way of working internally for both parties unfortunately could not be found, hence a parting of the ways was the only way forward."

He added: "Simon would like to thank the players, staff and volunteers for their great efforts this season and wishes the club all the very best for the future. In return we would like to thank Simon for his efforts this season and we wish Simon all the best in his next role in football."
