FF News
The Southern Football League are mourning the passing of assistant secretary Russell Price after he passed away on Monday. An emotional statement on the league website read "It is with deep regret that I report the death on 4 January of Russell Price after a long and painful, but incredibly brave, fight against cancer. Russell, aged 50 and a retired postman, joined the League as Assistant Secretary in the summer of 2014 and very quickly grew into the role which he described enthusiastically as his dream job. A long standing supporter of Gloucester City and a qualified match official who had run the line at many Southern League matches, Russell very quickly proved to be the perfect fit as the first incumbent of the new post. Sadly, having been in remission for five years, an annual check showed that the disease had returned and so he commenced a long and painful time of treatment, including surgery. Despite all this, Russell remained positive and determined to return to the office which he eventually did but, unfortunately, only for a very short time after which his condition deteriorated culminating in his resignation in December and, regretfully, his passing on Monday afternoon. We are obviously deeply saddened to lose a truly valued member of staff and a super bloke at such an early age and our thoughts and prayers are with Russell's family and friends. It was certainly a pleasure and a privilege to have known and worked with Russell and he will be sorely missed" Source: www.southern-football-league.co.uk Source
