Walton & Hersham 0-2 Horley Town

This was a game Horley deservedly won, however Walton & Hersham's centre forward James Robertson will be wondering how he didn't at least make the game closer and really should have helped his side to at least a share of the points.

Horley scored in the third minute when Lewis Taylor struck a shot from 35 yards which swerved wickedly, finding the far corner of the net, even though the Walton keeper got a hand to it. Horley were comfortable for the rest of the first half, although Portuguese midfielder Didi Castanho showed some nice touches for Walton. Unfortunately for him and his team, he had few options in front of him, so Walton created very little.

Walton looked more determined after half-time, but the tie looked to be effectively ended when Russell Harvey made it two after Walton failed to clear a Horley free kick.

Giving credit to Walton, they didn't give up and having complained to his teammates about a lack of service, Robertson stirred them into action, only to hold his head in his hands. Twice Walton got down the right wing, delivered excellent crosses to find Roberston no more than 8 yards out with a free header on goal, only for the striker to fail to hit the target both times. And to justify the belief that bad things come in threes, when a ball fell to him 12 yards out, asking to be smacked goalwards, he once again found the fence of the ground, rather than the target.

Anything but three points would have been harsh on Horley, but they will want to prevent those slip-ups which better sides will punish them for. Walton & Hersham look like a side that is still getting to know each other with so many changes this season, but there are reasons for hope. However, they need to start taking their chances to pick up points sooner rather than later.
