This should be an interesting one this evening (Thursday), I expect there will be one or two abacus's brought to the game to try to keep the score:

I understand that this benefit fixture, in 1977, was arranged due to the sad and untimely death of Pitstone player Manager Alan Howson, aged just 33. Iconic Luton Town boss Harry Haslam was approached, who I believe knew Alan, and took a full squad to the Recreation Ground which had recently been improved to gain entry to the South Midlands League in 1977/78:

Further to the earlier post, see an old Pitstone & Ivinghoe team photograph, that is the late Alan Howson in the front row with the trophy in front of him:

No photo description available.

Further to the earlier post, I gather the Pitstone & lvinghoe team photograph is from the 1966/1967 campaign where the Club won the West Hertfordshire Division One Championship and lifted the Marsworth Cup and the Apsley Junior Cup. Back Row: Bob Beesley, Bob Bates, Ted Bateman, Jay Adlem, Jurek Balizewski, David Wesley, Ian Clements. Front Row: David Hawkins, John Dennehy, David Harvey, Alan Howson, Rob Routley, Len Cox.
