WILLENHALL TOWN 2 vs QUORN 3

The coresponding away fixture saw an attacking, exciting game of football with the Reds turning on the style and winning 3-0. The return game was the exact opposite, with neither team giving credit to their 5th and 6th league position. Willenhall's previous couple of games had looked like they had recapurted their early season form, but against Quorn they put in a dire performance which will rate as one of their most inept of the season.

Quorn took the lead on 15 minutes in most bizzarre fashion, the usually solid Creighton carelessly losing the ball to Noble who struck the ball over keeper Vaughan. The ball struck the underside of the crossbar, bounced behind Vaughan and over the line.

Five minutes later and Noble should have made it two, but a brave blocking tackle by Whitcombe prevented the visitors doubling the tally. From the conceded corner Nurse hit the post.

The Reds best chance came near the break when Moseley was set up by Bullimore, his effort just wide.

After a "gentle" half time motivation talk by boss Smith the Reds came out looking more dangerous but against the run of play it was Quorn who increased thier lead. On 52 Noble turned provider, his cross headed home by an unmarked Dawson on the far post.

Sub Dunkley grabbed his first Willenhall goal since joining mid-week, the former Atherstone and Nuneaton striker converting a pass from Moseley after he had dribbled his way through several quorn defenders.

Town should have equalised on 79 minutes when a long clearence by Vaughan found Walker with just keeper Sharpe to beat, however the vetern midfielder saw his weak downward header present no problems.

Quorn wraped the game up with 10 minutes to go when sub Varney found himself in space and passed to an unmarked Dawson to tap in the third goal.

On 90 minutes strong appeals for a penatly were denied by the ref when Bullimore was crudely fetched down inside the area. Then 2 minutes in added time the goal of the game came from Moseley when he unexpectly lobbed Sharpe from 30 yards, but it was too little too late for the Reds.

Willenhall visit lowly Halesowen Harriers on Tuesday, before going to Chasetown the following Saturday.
