Talking to Mand, my other half and I mentioned that since I was a kid, I don't eat Meat on Good Friday, she said she has never done that. (Not eating Christ body on Good Friday) I do believe in God and pray but I am not a regular church goer.

The only thing eaten is Fish, I have carried this through to my adult life.

Do any of you, do this, or is it now forgotten?

It's basically a Catholic thing, and goes back to the days when fish was plentiful, and meat was a rareity ! Pope decreed fish should be eaten on a Friday to conserve meat stocks.

As me and 'Er Indoors are Pagan, it don't effect us ! Having home-made beef-burghers, chips and eggs for tea !

My mother used to eat fish on a Friday as a sort of tradition, and because she thought it added variety to the menu, which she regarded as being healthy. Later on, she gave up bothering about a weekly rhythm of the food, except that she stuck to a Sunday roast for a long time. Such details seem quaint but outdated in the twenty-first century.

Some of my more "elderly" relatives still stick to the Sunday Roast and have passed the tradition down the line. My parents discontinued the traditional years ago along with eating dinner at lunch time. (If you see what I mean)!

As for the Friday fish. I sort of continue with that tradition and even got Invis to eat proper fish on Good Friday. He thinks it only comes in batter or fingers!!! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

We always had our Sunday roast at lunchtime when I was still living with my parents. It meant putting it in the gas oven after breakfast, and basting it and adding the potatoes during the morning. These days, people seem to have their breakfast later on Sundays, so that there is no time to prepare a meal of that sort by midday.

Caught myself reminiscing about Sundays the other day.

Morning: Catweezle.

Noon: Jack Hargreaves, In the Country [or title similar to that]

Followed by Brian Moore and The Big Match...closely followed by our Sunday Lunch..which we always had about mid-afternoon.

Aah...those were the days.
