FF News
A winger who featured in Sky TV program Football's Next Star has signed for Welsh Premier side Cefn Druids. Jamie Matthews was a member of FC United of Manchester Academy and also played for Hyde Reserves. This was when, as a 17-year-old, he took part in the competition in which contestants had a chance to win a contract with Serie A giants Inter Milan. Matthews was the top-ranked entrant from the Manchester area, reaching the final twenty out of seven thousand original entries before being forced to withdraw with a knee injury. But his success earned him an invitation to have a three-month trial with Major League Soccer outfit Chicago Fire. The 21-year-old then returned to the United Kingdom to play for Colwyn Bay, Droylsden, Trafford and Northwich Victoria.
