Peacehaven cut playing budget in half

Ryman League side Peavehaven and Telscombe have announced that they have come to the "difficult decision" to cut their playing budget.

A statement released on the club website on Wednesday explained the reasons behind the decision.

"The committee of Peacehaven & Telscombe Football Club has made the difficult decision to cut the playing budget by half for the rest of the season.

As a committee we have been, and will continue to work extremely hard to ensure that we maintain our status within the Ryman League.

This decision was not an easy one to make but in the interest of the football club and grass roots football we have made this very hard decision to reduce the overall wage bill.

This has meant that a few of our senior players have made a very quick decision to leave the club, and obviously we are very disappointed, but wish them well in their future playing career. They are Jamie Brotherton, Fraser Logan, Jon Marzetti and Mark Zydonic.

Manager Simon Colbran who only joined us three months ago, and has been put in a very difficult situation, has advised us, although it will not be easy on this budget, he will work extremely hard with his coaching team, to develop a squad that we as a club will be proud of.

We truly want to thank Simon for not running away from us immediately in this current climate and we hope that we can return to the level of finance we previously agreed with him as soon as we are in a steady financial position.

Please do support Simon and the team over this difficult period, getting behind the boys and cheering them on, making them feel welcome at our club, by showing our appreciation of their continued effort on the park
