FF News
Depleted Leek Town came up trumps in their game against resurgent Loughborough Dynamo at Harrison Park on Saturday with the talking point being Blues’ outstanding goal by Chris Baker shortly before half time. The build-up was superb and the execution outstanding as Leek regained the lead after Dynamo had equalised with a fortunate deflection. Blues wrapped up the points with their own piece of good fortune with around 15 minutes remaining. The visitors gifted Leek an own goal when an attempted clearing header rebounded off the woodwork and hit former Blues’ keeper James Martin before crossing the line. Loughborough arrived at Harrison Park on the back of a two goal victory at Kidsgrove in their last game under the new management of former Blues’ defender Gary Sucharewycz but his side was restricted to half chances whilst Leek ran out deserved victors. After the game Blues’ boss Lee Casswell commented, “Obviously being without James Curley and Darren Chadwick on Saturday we were down to bare bones but we threw in Warren Holmes and paired him with Niall Green in the centre of defence and they both did well. “Chadders was forced to leave work last Thursday with a chest infection and was only fit enough to fill a seat on the bench whilst Curley was attending a wedding and so we had few options. “We went one up after a couple of minutes but they equalised through an unfortunate deflection but we regained the lead with some superb football and a great finish to take a lead into the break. “We stressed to the lads at half time the need to go on and win the game and we went further ahead with our own bit of luck thanks to an own goal. “In the end we played well to finish the game off and claim the three points”, he added.
