FF News Posted January 7, 2016 Share Posted January 7, 2016 A fund raising event named “Chris Ormerod Day” after the former Padiham goalkeeper raised over £1000. Chris, who suffers from Churgg-Strauss Syndrome, a disease that affects the body’s defences, has lost one leg completely and the other below the knee as a result of the disease, but had expressed a wish to appear in goal one last time at the Arbories. Club officials then organised an event for Chris to face penalties from former team mates, and at the same time raise money for the club, Pendleside Hospice ad Doctor Niven’s Research Fund. Padiham Secretary Alan Smith said: “We couldn’t have asked for a better turn out at the event, and we couldn’t have wished for more support from those who attended. “The original plan was for Chris to appear in goal at half time during the game against AFC Liverpool. “When the game was called off, the spot kicks had to be moved to outside the club house and took place during the evening fund raising event. “Chris appeared in smaller nets, and wore oversized gloves, and the lads used an extra soft ball. “He was also presented with a pair of goalkeeping gloves from the League’s official goalkeeping partner Reusch, which was very much appreciated by Chris and his family”.
