Eustace excited by Harriers future

New Kidderminster Harriers manager John Eustace has urged Harriers to put the season just ended out of their mind as planning begins in earnest for the new 2016/17 term.

Harriers ended 2015/16 in relegation despite a strong finish to the campaign, rounding off a challenging year for all concerned at Aggborough.khfc

The new boss, who spent much of Thursday in meetings at the club, is eager to get cracking straight away with the task of responding to the drop.

He commented: “It has been a tough season and, obviously, a lot has gone on off the pitch.

“But as a club and as a whole we have to forget that and look forward.

“We have to be really positive about next season; we’ll work hard in pre-season and try and get things right.”

It’s been something of a baptism of fire for Eustace, with one of his first jobs as a manager being to be part of the process of letting young players leave Aggborough at the end of their contracts.

While acknowledging it was a unique kick off to his career, the former Watford and Derby hero remains impressed with the core of what remains at his disposal.

“It’s certainly a strange situation to come into,” he added.

“With the club being relegated, finances have made a lot of the decisions quite easy, really.

“It’s not a footballing reason and I think it’s more financial and that’s just part and parcel of being relegated.

“But [the squad that remains] looks great and very impressive.

“On Saturday I was impressed with the whole team; the midfield dominated and the strikers did well.

“It’s going to be exciting for next year so that’s only a good thing.
