A pleasing afternoon with both Codicote and Old Bradwell United progressing to the next round of the competition, a groundhopper from another Forum was at Abbey Road:

Anagram Records Trophy 3rd Round
Old Bradwell United 3-1 Clapton Community
Attendance 66 h/c
Free admission - Programme by donation

Entertaining cup tie between two teams in different Step 7 Leagues. Visitors, backed by a vociferous following, took the lead in the 29th minute with a free kick from the right headed in by Fred Taylor. The hosts equalised in first half stoppage time, Chris King scoring at the 3rd attempt after an excellent double save from the visiting keeper. The hosts took the lead 12 minutes from time with a superb 20 yard finish from Tommy Cooke curling the ball past the keeper into the top corner before King scored his second five minutes from time with another good finish, a low shot into the bottom corner. A good job penalties were avoided as the light was fading fast by the final whistle, game kicked off 6 minutes late, the same time added on in the first half and it was 4pm when the final whistle blew.
Ground is in a public park about 2 miles north of Milton Keynes City Centre just east of the main Euston to Glasgow railway line. Only saw two goods trains pass during the game due to the strike which probably prevented even more visiting fans from attending. Venue is shared with cricket and has a modern glass fronted Clubhouse with wooden exterior and a thatched cottage behind adding to the backdrop but too far from the pitch to watch from there. Pitch is railed on 3 sides and roped on the cricket side. The best feature is the long dugout used by both teams which has a mural depicting the club initials on the back and a robin, presumably the club's nickname, on each side. Currently 2nd in Spartan South Midlands Division 2, they would probably have to groundshare with neighbours New Bradwell St Peter if they wanted to go up. Even if they could get permission for lights it would be difficult to enclose the pitch as it would block access to Bradwell Abbey the other side of the railway line.
