Ricay 1 Stortford 0

A vital three points for us and it now looks three from five at the bottom given that aylesbury's duck is virtually "a l'oranged"

I felt neither side took full advantage when they had conditions in their favour and it was our performance against the wind that for me gave us the edge over 90 minutes.

we were all just saying 0-0 at half time wasn't great, as we had the wind, when henty did a bit of kite flying with the ball and sailed one over dessborough's head from 30 yards for our goal which was justice as dessborough inparticular had been wasting copious amounts of time since minute one.

in the second half as you would expect stortford had most of the game and rattled the woodwork a couple of times but i thought we defended resolutely with some mighty efforts from weaver and throws from sappleton against the gale. danny missed a hat trick of good chances but as they say you've got to be there to miss em.

a slight worry for me was aziz coming off after an hour as i don't like to see davidson back in defence. perhaps hunter could be tried at right back if the worst came to the worst.

danny is banned for our next two games so it'll be interesting to see how we go but i spose the most likely scenario is tomlinson partnering kk and blackie getting a start.

on other news i believe brickell has been released and i did hear a rumourette that stowe has signed a contract for next season (altho not sure on that one)

a result at maidenhead is within our capabilities so lets hope we can keep up the pressure on those above us.

The weather cartainly made the game a bit of a lottery but the team certainly played with more resolve than the past couple of games and deserved the win, especially in the second half. Hockers had one of those games that all strikers have once in a while but in some cases the ball into him wasn't all that, again due to the wind.

I am concerned with Aziz going off injured but hopefully Sam Taylor will be back next week which should mean that Henty plays at right back, keeping Davidson in midfield. I thought Leon had another good game (a discussion point for "Tash Head Tone") as did KK, who deserved his "player of the month" for February.

From next Saturday we have one of the hardest tests of this part of the season, 3 games away in one week. With the detirmination of the supporters to travel to all these games (speaking to most people in the bar, quite a few are taking time off for the Kettering game - such is their detirmination to get behind the players), I'm sure that this must only inspire the team the team to pull off a couple of great performances. We all know you can do it lads, it was that knowledge that made the Braintree and Harrow games so frustrating.

Come on you Blues!!!

With the previous two performances and the very windy conditions. Danny had a lot of chances but the majority were at tight angles and hes doing something right to be getting the ball in good positions and in front of goal it was just a bit of an off day that more than likely wont be repeated. The the team played against the wind in the second half was superb in is the sort of performance that will pull us out of the bottom 4. Even if it means playing 3 at the back Davidson has to play in the midfield

I'm delighted to see the lads had the character to put the last two games behind them and pull off a good result, which gives a great chance of the playoffs. I would rather Dormer was pushed back into defence than Davidson. By putting Dormer at the back we could bring in Black and Jones on the wing and get Tommo to replace Hockton up front. We'll just have to wait and see what Justin does if Aziz isn't fit.

BEGIN RANT: For me, the jury has been out on Tomlinson for several weeks now. On Saturday I decided to be as keen as an OPTA official, I had to make up three new categories as the regular stats were not being threatened:

1. Number of times ball mis-controlled

2. Tackles bottled

3. Number of minutes with hand of apology in the air after stray pass

the jury returned a verdict of guilty and the player was sent down

END RANT:

The rest of the team battled well against a good passing Stortford side, Weaver had a great game (my MOM). Dormer and Black could give master classes on skill and control with the ball at their feet. First time I'd seen Trott, reminded me very much of Redders, but doesn't give away so many fouls.

with the conditions this one could have gone either way. does anyone know if henty is claiming he was going for goal?!!

as for tomlinson, personally i think he is better up front which was where he started against heybridge and we slaughtered them. reckon he will be upfront on sat with hockers banned.

well done lads for battling on on sat in a tough game.

I agree with Paul. I think it a little unfair to pick Tomo in that way. I believe he is playing out of position and is therefore getting a little frustrated. Perhaps next week will put all that to rest with Hockers out. I think he has proved that he is a quality player but up front.

Also, I believe the windy conditions made it a bit difficult to pick any player out for major criticism.

evryone is entitled to there opinion as long as it remains constructive which ray has managed. I actually thought tommo did ok saturday. If hockton had his goalscoring boots on then we would have won by a bigger margin. Second half was always going to be a nailbiter but credit the lads for digging in and defending superbly both against the oppo and weather. Hunter, dorms, sappleton and trott were superb

Massive win (or should that be massive win-d!). The addition of KK and Hunter, with Davidson back in midfield made all the difference. I'm sure on another day Hockton would've had a double hat-trick! Puts us right back in it (what a difference a week makes), roll on Maidenhead.
