Anon Posters

In response to Martin's cry on the B&B thread...

L<img src="/forum/images/graemlins/trippy.gif" alt="" /><img src="/forum/images/graemlins/trippy.gif" alt="" />K - new topic!

This is partly aimed at anon poster 'Rod' , but may apply to many of our anon friends.

As this forum continues to accept anonymous posters, there are no great security issues surrounding the passwords used by registered members.

What I mean is (Rod, and Dave (programmes), especially) on here you ought to be able to use any password you like, so you should be able to duplicate one that you remember from elsewhere. I don't know whether the system checks that the password is different from the username when you register, but that would be an easy (if rather insecure) solution.

Gary may be able to confirm any registration restrictions.

As for anon posting in general, I would agree that this is a good idea and should encourage more contributors to the forum. (eg I have not posted on the Dover forum because I cannot be bothered to register there).

As Ian and others have mentioned, I much prefer that Anon posters either use a name or sign their posts. I am sure I am not the only reader who treats un-named posts with suspicion and perhaps less respect simply because they are unattributable. Obviously, the consistent use of a name is a great help in knowing that you are continuing a conversation with the same person, or cross-referring to the right 'anon' post.

Dave why can't you log in? You don't know how to or do you use many different computers?

Annon posters should be taken with a pinch of salt...you don't need to reply to them and that'll shut them up

Woody, I think I understand Dave's issue concerning logging-in.

It would be useful for him if one of the Slough- or Burnham-based forum posters could provide him with 30mins IT support to sort it out.

I would gladly do so, but I am never in Slough for long enough, or (more significantly) at an appropriate time to help.

And Dave, rest assured that your 'signature' is well-recognised on this forum and you would never be lumped-together with the other anonymous posters...
