A very good result today. The team played some excellent passing football in the first half with Bertie developing a good understanding in midfield with Hasim and Dean Standen. Bertie as captain led from the front and deserved his goals as well as being man of the match. He was totally committed and quite simply without him we would not have won. His first goal was from an defence splitting pass by Dean Standen beating the goalkeeper with a fierce drive. His second was from the penalty kick when thankfully he grabbed the ball away from Charlie Taylor and smashed it past the keeper to the chants of 'SUPERBERTIE' from the delighted Margate fans.

Our second half performance was nowhere near as good as the first half and substitutes Gavin and Ian as well as the new chap up front came on to help secure the game.

But we won albeit against a desperately struggling club and had played some good football building on last week's beginning although we do need more 'omph' and effort upfront.

Yes good report Zuks. Just to add on yours. Charlie made a world class save to deny their first goal. I think he tipped it on to the post. Think taylor had a lob which really ought to have sailed in not yards over early on.. Berties goal was indeed a great through ball and the shot by Bertie, i thought, was not his best as the goalie made a wee hash of it, almost got away with it and then it crept in. We then finished off the half well. We looked like breaking down their week defence.

Second half in control for four mins then this wonder goal from near half way line. Charlie tipped it, just, but it still beat him. Some lack of co- ord after that and we looked beat but we wethered the storm and started to create some chances. CK made some shrewed changes and as Zuckov says the penalty was 'if in doubt whack straight' stuff. It nearly burst the net and all thirty of us felt exhilerated enough to leap. Problem was so many of us were stuck to the terrace with cold it was difficult. We played great stuff after that, but why do we persist in corner flag spotting when we could have scored more. Still a win away is gold dust.

Couple of other anicdotes.

The ground was in poor nick. Worse than in 1999. I counted their support at about 140. We took 40 just and made plenty of noise.

I wore me silly long hair ding dong hat as promised.

JJ stood with the lads

Thought their team ok but poor at the back.

Some shenanagins with their full back after final whistle with our support.

Lovely people but they look in trouble. This would be catastrophic as they have a wonderful history, especially at Amature level.

A good Xmas present. Well done lads. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Geoff, well done for wearing the 'hat', you are a good sport.

Also a special mention for the vocal efforts of Michael Holland. He played a leading role on the terraces. Definitely X factor material.

I hope CK will put him on at least 2 year contract.

PS I dont think their no 2 will sending him a Christmas card after his attempt at 'male bonding' at the end of the game.
