Spotted a couple of interesting of postings on Kent Online about Gillingham, some of their fans reckon Charlie and Mark are probably too well paid and too good for Gillingham.

Not sure about the pay, but I agree about the quality!!

Quote "To Daniel new faces from where? A player from a higher division? Mr Scally will not pay the loan wages!! Players from lower leagues? These players are on more money and are looked after better with the teams that they are with. People are branding names like Macdonald and Debolla from Gravesend around, these players must be laughing at these reports because they are paid more than 75% of the gills players and are looked after alot better than 100% of the gills players. Changes can be made within the squad but will Ronnie make them?"

They are now only 36 league places above us.

Is that the closest we have ever been?

I think we would have to safely say that it is Gary. In 1979-1980 we finished fifth in the Alliance while Gillingham finished sixteenth in Divison Three, as it was known as then. Perhaps we could go back further than that but with no defined non league top flight until 1979 it would be hard to say. Also I can't be bothered to work certain positions mid season so, unless someone can find that info, lets just say this is the closest we've been to them since they joined the league back in the fifties.
