a theoretical question

Just thought I'd bring something up because nothing else is happening on here....

Slough Town vs Arsenal, FA Cup 4th round - how long would it take to decide that the game could not be staged at Wexham Park? I reckon it would have to be an almost instant decision given the size of the ground. I mean, I don't think there would be space for temporary seating, there is the risk of crushing behind the goals and access for thousands of people to the Park would be almost impossible. Basically the same problems as at Farnborough, such as the press box, etc...

two seconds is the answer from all of us....more controversial...what about sky tv...won't do it live unless its at farnboro....can only be cos the only chance of an upset is down there....outrageous....200k lost to farnboro...and I know they will get 500k gate money but they should have had both...once in a lifetime chance for them.....by the way....i'd fancy slough to beat arsenal...!

...forums are all a bit quiet lately...we need footie.... <img src="/beta/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

The size of the groung has little to do with it. Ok so there wouldnt be enough room for 30,000 but the rules of the cup are that the groung may only be changed for safety reasons not capacity. If you could safely have 3000, slough and 1000 arsenal fans then the game could go ahead. WE played Reading and Macclesfield at home, but went away to Birmingham on safety grounds.

And if you believe that was the real reason for the ground switch I hope Santa Clause and the tooth fairy visit you regularly

Paul, at the Park I would think the FA would ask that we set a capacity for the day - say 3,500. If it was safe enough to hold 3,500 people, with segregation and stewarding, etc, then there's no reason why it shouldn't go ahead. But it wouldn't be safe because of the risk of crushing behind the goals.

Out of interest, should the need ever arise, do you think there's any space to erect temporary seating like Stevenage and Railway did? Just another theoretical question...

thats topical for us because at the mo we are trying to negotoate an agreement for pre fabrciated removable stands behind both of our goals...as you will know if you've been to the stadium...we have a 6 lane athletics track which of course gives us the space behind the goals to do just that but does detract from the footie atmosphere that we all want to create.......we could easily get say....4000 in those two areas.....would make the ground better for spectator enjoyment as well...havin' said that...for us it would the first train to north london...!
