M6 once got caught in a 28 mile tailback

The M6/M5 junction at Walsall is bad at any time - Friday nights can be horrendous.

The A50 route is quite good and once you get onto the A500 around Stoke you have options.

If you have a reasonable map, and you know there are hold ups, you can avoid the motorway by finding your way to the Crewe /Nantwich area of S Cheshire - then to Middlewich then to Northwich.

If you come up the M6 and hear there are problems - leave at Stafford North and follow signs for Eccleshall - Loggerheads - Woore then Nantwich - then as above. All good roads and all well signposted, but M'way should be first choice if it is ok.

Going N on M6 leave at the Chester/Middlewich/Northwich exit.

At first roundabout after M'way (by big pub) turn right, right at next little roundabout, then right at lights. This is a long VERY straight road. After several miles straight on at the first roundabout (Morrisons distribution centre) then immediately right onto the dual carraigeway at the next roundabout (towards Manchester). After a mile turn left into a little lane SP Lostock Gralam and straight on at the lights at the end. Left after a mile by the Black Greyhound pub and the ground is 1/2 ml on your left. Plenty of parking and the away end is the far end with its own parking. M6 - ground - 20mins.

Have a good trip and tell Chris Duffy he'll get a really warm welcome. He was a great favourite of ours.
