Bedford Match Ratings.

Recommended Posts

Sorry. Have to disagree with you Matt on a few ratings.

Protheroe 6 instead of 7. He had to come in and do a difficult job but their goal was down to him when he came for a ball that was never going to be his which left him in no man’s land.

Bennett 8 instead of 7. There was one time in the first half when he went to ground instead of standing up but other than that was quite commanding.

Graham 7 instead of 8. Did not do much wrong in that position but not an 8. Jeff mucking around with positions again. Should of left JK on the right where he is more effective. I thought we had learned from earlier on in the season on changing established players positions around.

Duffy 7 instead of 6. I get fed up of hearing some having a go at Duffy. He was a good outlet on the left today and made room for himself. If he had been backed up more then we could have put more of those little touches around the penalty area we have been used to where he plays a major part.

Kennedy 6 well I agree with that. Was played out of position so would of got a 7 maybe an 8 if played on the right.

Dobinson 6 instead of 7. Brave player but did not really stamp any class.

Minton. Just about a 7 but definitely not man of the match, I have been disappointed with him since the Ford game. Does not get around as much since then and cannot back Duffy up as he used to. Didhe injure himself when he trod on that ball against Fords? Or now the ground has changed, does this not suit his game? A real loss of form to the way he has been playing.

Well what can I say?

I always accept constructive critism, even if I don't agree with it. Of course those ratings were my view of the game and my opinion of the players performances. Not everyone is going to agree with me of course, but being involved with the website it's my views that get posted on there and Merv and I always encourage those fans that agree/disagree to put their opinions on this forum and get some real discussion and banter going.

That's the great thing about a democratic discussion board like this, Phil. You get to have your say, even when you are talking... Well, talking from your own perspective, let's say.

Seriously, thanks for putting your point of view. Let's hope others follow your lead and we can open up the discussion.

Duffy played well, but was not effective enough. His unwillingness to take players on on a regular basis frustrates everyone, and the only reason it seemed like a good performance yesterday was because people are comparing it to the usual performances he has been given this season. If only he would take people on then I would have a much higher opinion of him. If only it was possible to mix Duffy's ability to Scott Forbes's attitude then we could have a quality player.

JK definitely wasted in centre - MUCH better on the wide right. I also thought that Minton was trying to do too much, and took the ball just one step too far on virtually every occasion he got near the box, with support screaming at him from both sides especially the left.

Another view from the verbal but uninitiated (me)- the defence looked very loose. Missing Wardy? Two unstoppable shots from acres of space early in the first half - just lucky the crossbar got in the way.

Obviously all supporters have differing views on games and on individual performances. I felt most of our players gave their all but Bedford looked very well organised and appeared to me to be a pretty decent team.

I personally would not play Proths in defence, he played well but is too good a footballer to be in the back three. I would liked to have seen Ross Johnson start, and would have put Proths in the middle and JK wide right. Mark graham looked a good tricky winger to me, but he looked a bit lightweight against such a solid organised team, however I'm sure he will prove a good acquisition longer term.

Minton And Dobbo both battled well without ever really getting to grips with the game and I think Gregory was given a really tough time by their centre half. I personally feel that we need to look for another target man upfront as I don't feel Greggors is doing the job well enough anymore.

I thought Duffy looked dangerous but is not at the top of his game right now, Chenners and Benno were solid, and Boylan was well marked but a constant threat.

Can we still do it??? I don't think so now but who knows, Shots have a tough last six or seven games, however we can't afford any more slip ups.

Anything's possible. It only needs Aldershot to lose their next game and as long as we win, it's back on.

It will be very difficult but if we remain unbeaten in our last ten games we have a chance. Aldershot have some tough games coming up away to Hayes, Basingstoke, Sutton and of course ourselves and a very tricky home match against Albans. If they can get through these run of games still in a good position then well done to them, they would have totally deserved it. Let's see what they're really made of, it's far from over yet!
