Mind you, if you turn green with jealousy you'll match my eyes!!

WOW!!!

Actually I have green eyes too. Probably more the colour of the River Lee than deep emerald, though.

I am going to show my ignorance now but where's the River Lee?
Mine are a very definite green and when I'm angry they go an even more brilliant green. My friends and colleagues say I don't have to say a word, they can tell what I'mm thinking by looking at my eyes!!!

I don't have anything against green eyes ! Most of the women I have known, only open their eyes at the critical moment, so eye colour doesn't matter at THAT point.

I am told, I have 'Steely Blue Killer Eyes!' (Then again, I'm English !!)

Best work that one out for yourselves !

Err, I think I've just, err, well, I think I need a lie down.

The Lee (or Lea) is a tributary of the Thames, flowing from somewhere near Luton roughly eastwards to Hertford where it turns south to eventually join the Thames at Bow Creek. From Enfield southwards the valley is heavily industrialised and the river was very badly polluted until 20 odd years ago.

The river was formed into a navigation in the 19th century but the country's oldest lock, dating to the 16th century, was built at Waltham Abbey. There was much prehistoric activity in the fertile Lee valley.

The southern stretches between Enfield and Tottenham are covered in huge reservoirs, the George V and the William Girling, and a funny shaped one whose name I can't remember.

Industries of course included small arms and and gunpowder. In case you were wondering, the Lee in Lee Enfield rifle has nothing to do with the river, it's the name of the designer. Enfield is course from the Royal Small Arms factory in Enfield, on the banks of the Lee. The En in Bren and Sten guns comes from Enfield (also the lesser known Aden and Raden cannons).

So there you go, the mighty River Lee.

J**sus Ch**st ! An arms expert !

Bren Gun. One of the best SMG's ever produced !

The Sten ! Bloody Lethal ! Designed originally for the SOE and then The Resistance. Would have been a far better weapon for "Room Clearance", if the sodding designer had put a down locking-bolt on it !

Have the bl**dy thing cocked, and jump out of an army truck, and the chances were, you'd spray everyone else in the truck. Nice and light, and not really for front line combat.

Next ?????????????

Yes, a lie down, ready with the yoghurt and thinking of your green eyes.

Actually prehistory is more my field. I could wthrill you with tales of Boudica and her revolt, fascinate you with details of how to build a roundhouse, excite you with the arguments about the classification of Atlantic roundhouses and true brochs. I could dazzle you with the typology of Bronze Age shields and tempt you with naked barley and emmer wheat. I could scare you with stories of burials and cremations, bog bodies and excarnation.

Or we could curl up in front of a fire with some yoghurt, strwaberries and wine and stick a Doors CD on.

You are such a cruel man Invis.

I would settle for either, they both sound wonderful but I know you are just leading me on. I'll definitely have the strawberries and the yoghurt and a glass of very nice wine waiting but you'll be off digging somewhere near Milton Keynes!!

Promises, Promises. Two weekends running I've bought you strawberries, yoghurt, creme freche, crumble, custard, real ale, wine.
That's it...no more!! I will not be taken in by your intellectual foreplay for one more minute . Sorry Invis but I just can't believe you any longer, it's too, too hurtful. From now on I only believe what I see with my own eyes!!! (My green eyes)

Well, lets face it ! The Sten was never designed for proper warfare. It was more a 'back-door' weapon. Light: Easily dismantled and more for geurilla (?) tactis.

I remember my instructor saying to me,

"Best thing you can do son, is, stick it through a f**king window, pull the trigger and let the gun do the rest !" Hence: Spray it everywhere !"

Nurse ????

See what I mean. I stand by my previous posts! This exchange ended abruptly at around 8 o'clock. Does anyone know if Halifax Lass actually lives in Halifax or just round the corner from er....... Enfield. You can't exactly go "sneaking" off to Halifax, I think your absence would be noticed. It's not like nipping round to the pub for quick one Invisible.
