I posted on the Margate site asking them about shearer(i would post a link but the address only links to the forum and not to the thread).
"Hi,
I'm a Gravesend and northfleet fan.I know that Shearer is training with us and was wondering if you could tell me about him and what you think of him..
Cheers
Fleet boy "
The replies were...
By Bluestan-"Shearer is a superb player, should be playing league football, and is also a really decent bloke. He does like a bit of a drink though, probably the reason he was frozen out at Margate (IMO). good signing though"
By a guest-"I think there was a personality clash.
Tradegy that he has left us .
He is a star player .One of best defenders in conference-massive blow to us ."
And by Full English Breakfast-"He has unfulfilled ability, but, with respect, if he is that good why is he training with Gravesend and not a top Conference club or a FL club like Sam? "

In reply to the final comment - why was he at Margate and not a top conference club?

Valid point as ever SD!To be fair Margate aren't too bad a side but hardly a top confernce club,i think they could struggle this year without Shearer and Sodje.

but that raises the question do we want to see margate relegated and as such we won't play them again..or do we want them to do badly so we can riddicule them but still play them?

They hardly helped make for a large crowd in the two games at Stonebridge Road last season, so I would gladly see them relegated.

Yep, margate down and canvey up, fair swap in terms of distance to travel, crowds and a much more interesting rivalry i think
