Feeding Birds

Recommended Posts

In the past few days hundreds of ducks,  swans and fish that live on the lake in my local park have died. For years well meaning people have been feeding literally car loads of bread, which is not their natural food,  to the waterfowl every singe day, and this has attracted over one hundred swans, and countless Canada geese to the lake, which should house two pairs of swans at the most. This has resulted in a lake polluted to toxic levels and the birds living in their own sewage. IMO its morally wrong to feed birds except in extreme weather conditions, and we should let nature look after itself.

Certainly slinging shed-loads of bread into a lake or pond is totally irresponsible/

We tend to feed the garden birds with the correct ingredients as the climate and number of birds dictate.

The lady in question works at Tesco and literally fills her car up everyday with bread that's out of date. Its been going on for years now. Apparently there's been over two hundred birds die, and they think its a serious case of avian botulism.

Maybe a word from some-one responsible to the manager of the Tesco's involved, AND copied to the R.S.P.B.  ??

With regards to Tesco, its all above board, and to be fair she and a few others that give up their time to look after the wildlife are lovely people, but just misguided IMO. Whats happened is being taken very seriously by the councillor who has responsibility for parks,  so hopefully some good may come out of what has been a depressing time for some of us.
