Torquay United chairman Clarke Osborne has insisted that he is not about to sell the club – and he is not trying to do so.

There has been speculation among fans that Gaming International, Osborne's company which owns the Gulls, is on the point of a sale, after a note in their latest accounts which appeared to indicate an imminent deal.

The statement, accompanying GI accounts up to December 31, 2016, said: "The directors are in advanced negotiations to dispose of Riviera Stadium Ltd and its underlying investment in Torquay United AFC Ltd."

But Osborne now says that the note was included for 'technical reasons'.

"There is nothing on the horizon, and I am certainly not looking for the exit-door, principally because we are only part into our plan," he insisted.

"I am not a quitter. I am, like most people who care for the club, hugely frustrated by the results, but the game of football has many facets that affect a result, probably the most of any sport.

"I am wedded to the principle that the caretakers of these complex and emotionally driven businesses have the task of building and maintaining the most efficient, inspired and committed backroom team and then, for those 90 minutes, hope for the best."
