unsure if you all know this, but apparently the consortium looking to take over St.Albans City DO NOT want to take on the £300,000 debts. Therefore, they are looking to take over the club but only in either division two or more realistically, the South Midlands League. Looks like your tenure in the Premier Division is all but over I'm afraid. This comes from a very reliable source.

I would be very surprised if any consortium with any grasp of business knowledge, would wish to take on a club with debts of £300,000!
I expect we'll know more after the meeting next week!

'This comes from a very reliable source.'

Where from, the Ladies in the Hairdressers? A reliable source that has only posted one message does not seem to reliable, but then that could just be me.

.....A reliable source....don't want the debts....£300,000....tenure in the Ryman Premier League over....over....South Midlands League....reliable source....over....
So that's it then. That's it. It's all over.
Thanks for that Mark. Highly illuminating. Which particular consortium is that then? P***k.

Well, how reliable would you class the Chairman of Chesham United who is also a director of ICIS then because the info came from him
The chairman of Berkhamsted Town runs ICIS and I gather he is part of the consortium looking to take over St.Albans City. Hence the inside info from the guy at Chesham.
Just thought I'd let you know what was said. No skin off my [****!!****].
[ 31 January 2002: This message was edited by: Mark123 ]

Talking of a consortium, any news on what is happening with this new one we heard about? The one with the Berkhamstead guy fronting it.
Im getting a little stressed sitting here not hearing anything or being able to do anything. I just want my club back! I know its not that simple but its not on that City may lose their status in the Ryman League. I would watch them wherever they were, as Im sure the majority of you would, but we've done so well so far this season on the pitch and to lose such a good position is just not fair!
If there is any news on the consortium or anything else, then please tell us. At the meeting next week, are we having votes and how is it going to be run? ie: will there be a 'speach' on the recent situation and then Q&A? Is there any indication that people like Kerry Pollard, Gary and Steve and a prepresentation of the players will be there? I would love to know their view on the situation and grab some insight as to what they are planning to do.

The Chesham chairman is definitely not trying to buy St.Albans. Jennings at Berko is. I was under the impression they were both involved with ICIS but could be wrong about Jennings.
Either way, the Chesham chairman is adament that the consortium would not take on the debts and therefore St.Albans would not be in the Premier Div next season. Ideally they'd like them in div 2, but most likely it'll be in the South Midlands League.

I'm possibly being a plonker here (and it may have even been suggested before). But if St. Albans sold all of their players, got rid of their management team, and just generally cut the wage bill to as close to zero as possible, would they not raise enough cash, or at least show that they're willing to try and help themselves.
Of course the team could then be made up of local "talent" (EFM - etc, etc!!), which would no doubt really struggle, but the club would stay in the premier. This would give the chance of finding a new backer a little easier, as the club would have cleared some debts, and would still be one of the bigger clubs in no-league football.
Is this possible, or is it just Roy of the Rovers stuff?

Believe what you want AFF, it really doesn't matter to me. I heard some info and thought I'd share it. Whether you choose to believe it is up to you. Sounds like you don't want to believe it.
Time will tell.

Mark 123.
This simple correction of your 7 factual errors might help you:
The Chairman of Berko is Danny Jennings who is nothing to do with Chesham or ICIS

The Chairman of Chesham United is Tony O'Driscoll who is nothing to do with Berko or ICIS.

Brian McArthey is a director of Chesham and he is something to do with ICIS but he is not the Chairman of Berko.
Are you with me so far?
Neither Tony O'Driscoll nor Brian McArthey are in any way involved with any consortium 'looking at' St Albans City Football and Athletics Club Ltd.
Now let's get back to "reliable" shall we.
Goodbye.

I think what he is trying to say is that Jennings at Berko is part of the consortium and that he (Mark123, that is) heard the story from McCarthy (possibly via the Chairman of Chesham) who is on the Board at Chesham but who used to be chairman at Berko and that he was under the impression that both of them were connected with ICIS.
Whichever way you look at it, it doesn't bode well, unfortunately.
Good luck, in any case.

The Berkhamsted chairman is currently a guy called Jennings. The bloke who used to be Berko's chairman is Brian McCarthy (now on the board at Chesham), who is certainly part and parcel of Icis (not sure if he runs it though).
So Mark, is it Jennings or McCarthy thats trying to buy the club?
Apologies if this is a bore to you Helen! grin.gif" border="0
