Stansted Res 3-2 Concord Res

Recommended Posts

Concord arrived at the palatial and grand Hargrave park excuse for a stadium after playing the worst game of hide and seek in a Basildon retail park with the super intelligent Matt Crumbie, who was having a whale of a time driving around like Noddy on a day trip.

Concord included a couple of new faces making their debuts, Jack Sneefe resuming the goalkeeping duties, and Ash Knott still injured. Mark Baptist once more skippered the side.

Stansted started brightly, as you would expect with 6 1st team players in the squad, looking to get the ball wide as early as possible. They took the lead after a good move on the right, the forward firing into the corner.

This seemed to jolt Concord into life, and they pulled one back, a superb free kick from Sam 'Tiz' Taylor found the head of Dan Ritchie, who guided it into the corner of the net.

Stansted continued to push on and scored again, a through ball finding the striker who tucked the ball passed Sneefe and into the goal.

Half-Time 2-1

An upbeat team talk in the largest dressing rooms ever seen at ESL level seemed to give Concord the spark they needed, they started the second half more brightly and started to pass the ball around to assert their authority.

Stansted did always look threatening however, and went further ahead when the number 8 slotted home inside the area, after Concord failed to clear their lines.

Concord did pull another goal back, Matt Crumbie heading home another Sam Taylor set-piece.

Concord pressed on but failed to find that elusive goal, and it finished 3-2, not a bad result considering it was a makeshift side, with only 11 players in the travelling squad. Concord will now look to their home game with Ilford on saturday, to pick up some much neede points, although they will have to dispense with the services of Sam Taylor, Jimmy Webb, Mark Baptist, Ash Knott, and Jamie Harvey who will be taking part in a football tour of Cyprus.
