I love it.

The passion and commitment that goes into it. For all of us that have sons (and daughters) that play the game, we know how it feels to turn up on a Saturday or Sunday morning and invest all that emotion into willing our darlings to excel and for the team to do well...

For those of us blessed to have had our offspring chosen to play for league, interleague, and pro-clubs. And those of us that watch our kids grow with the structure a team and bonding it can produce.

For us to have savoured the sweet delight of having our little ones plucked from obscurity of our lower league teams and thrown into the pro limelight with all it's dazzling lights for however long it lasts, maybe weeks, months or years. Only to find them released...Until another pro club plucks them...And on it goes over and over again...

The highest percentage of the 'chosen' kids are released, some even make it to play for thier country through the Schools system, a huge achievement and one to be applauded.

Have you ever noticed the jealousy this success brings? Little Jonnie's dad or mother saying her or his little jonnie is a far better player but got overlooked?...Sometimes over and over again....

We all start out with dreams and hopes that our son will be the one that 'makes it'. If you've got any sense you see it's a false dream. Do your best by your son and promote and drive, but step back and let fate take it's course.

Those of us involved with clubs see it over and over again. Little jonnie's mum and dad waiting for a word, for you to make him captain or mention him to your connections in the pro clubs. It just doesn't happen except in exceptional circumstances unless you are a fool.

Some parents become such a pain that the club will not entertain you and your little jonnie. It's just not worth it.

But, for all the Dads and Mums out there that turn out week in and week out to savour the beautiful game and put the nets up, make the sarnies, and are coaches, managers, refs and linesmen, you are invaluable.

Without these parents we'd be nowhere. Kids would not have a structured game to play. But, let's rid us of the pain in the asses that push and push. Stand on the sidelines and abuse. Abuse other kids, abuse the officials and abuse thier own kids by being such prigs.

Let's start the new season where games are played without the idiots bringing our youth game into disrepute. Let them not into the senior game.
